ACUPUNCTURE

What is Acupuncture?

It is part of a health care  system, known as Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Originating in China, with a history of development dating back thousands of years, it is still continually evolving today. It involves the insertion of fine sterile needles into specific locations of the body to relieve pain and treat many different ailments. It is a safe and drug free therapy. According to traditional Chinese Medicine philosophy, our health is dependant on a vital energy know as Qi moving in a balanced way through a series of channels below the skin. If this becomes blocked or stuck for many reasons, such as injury, emotional issues, stress or infection, pain and illness can result. Acupuncture frees up this blocked energy, allowing the body to work more efficiently and trigger the body’s natural healing response.

Benefits of Acupuncture

Acupuncture relieves pain and it can be used to prevent disease or strengthen the constitution, or can be used if a person is feeling unwell, without being “ill” in the western sense. It can also be used alongside conventional medicine in the treatment of both acute and chronic illness. Acupuncture moves beyond just focusing on the presenting symptoms, it identifies the factors that contribute to disease and balances your system. Acupuncture recognises that physical, mental and emotional health are interrelated and treats the person as a whole.

A growing body of evidence-based clinical research shows that traditional acupuncture safely treats a wide range of common health problems. Here is just small sample of why people commonly receive acupuncture:

Headaches, Stress, Anxiety, Depression, Insomnia, Gynecological problems, Fertility, Skin Conditions, Pain, Muscular, Skeletal and Digestive problems.

The World Health Organisation recognizes the effectiveness and therapeutic benefits of acupuncture in treating over 120 health complaints. For a full list go to;http://apps.who.int/medicinedocs/en/d/Js4926e/5.html

What happens in a session?

I will take a detailed case history asking many questions, some of which may seem related to your current condition and some that might not be so obvious, but are relevant to a traditional Chinese medicine diagnosis.  By looking at your symptoms and how they relate to each other and by using various diagnostic and observational techniques, including examining your pulse and tongue, I formulate a treatment plan tailored to your individual needs. I will then insert very fine, acupuncture needles into specific points of the body, which will be left for a period of time.  All needles are sterile, single use and disposable.   You may notice a significant change just after one session, but a course of 4 -10 treatments is recommended, especially if the condition has been present for a long time. I offer an initial consultation and treatment for €70 (approx 1 1/2 hours) and a follow up appointment for €50 (approx 1 hour)

SHIATSU

What is Shiatsu

Shiatsu is a holistic therapy originating from Japan and influenced by Chinese and Western knowledge. It is based on similar principles to acupuncture, but a Shiatsu practitioner uses their hands instead of needles.  Shiatsu acts to rebalance the body’s energy to promote well being, support good health and prevent illness.

Why receive Shiatsu

Shiatsu can be used to prevent and relieve many conditions. These are some of the common reasons why people receive Shiatsu:    Problems with muscles and joints ·   Postural problems, back, neck and shoulder pain, sciatica ·   For relaxation and relief of tension and stress ·   To relieve Anxiety/depression/insomnia ·   Low energy/fatigue ·   Problems with digestive/ breathing  ·  Headaches/migraines.

But you don’t have to be ill to benefit from Shiatsu, many people choose it because they enjoy it and to help them to stay well.

What happens in a Shiastu Session

I will take a lifestyle and medical history before making an evaluation, based on the reasons for coming and the symptoms you have. I will tailor the treatment accordingly, taking into account their own observations and a touch diagnosis.  You will be given a full body treatment, through loose comfortable clothing, usually lying on a padded mat on the floor (for maximum comfort a body cushion may also be used).  I will use a variety of techniques. These include applying pressure along energy lines and points using palms, thumbs, elbows and sometimes feet. Stretches, rotation of the limbs and mobilisation of the joints may also be part of the treatment. A shiatsu can range from being very gentle (using holding techniques to work on areas of weakness) to being more vigorous and dynamic.

MASSAGE

Take time out from the stresses of your day to relax, rejuvenate, recuperate and relieve muscular aches and pains. Choose from having a full body massage, a back, neck and shoulder massage, or a massage that focuses more specifically on problem areas. The massage can be gentle, healing and relaxing or strong and deep. Whatever your reasons for receiving a massage, the treatment will be adapted to your specific needs and requirements.

Using natural oils, the treatment I give will be a unique fusion, combining my training in Holistic/Swedish massage and also incorporating techniques and knowledge learnt from my background in Shiatsu and Acupuncture to give you more comprehensive treatment.

MASSAGE AND ACUPUNCTURE COMBINED
